Slip resistance for resilient flooring is measured by pendulum test — wet and dry — and expressed as a P-rating. P1 to P5 correlates to increasing slip resistance under wet conditions.

Occupancy dictates the specification. Commercial dry areas — offices, corridors, lobbies — accept P2 or above. Retail and hospitality customer areas typically require P3. Wet areas — bathrooms, entries, kitchens — require P4 or above.

Slip rating interacts with cleaning regime and surface embossing. A P4-rated product cleaned incorrectly, or worn beyond its refresh cycle, may not perform at rated slip in service.
