Commercial subfloors fall into three general categories: cementitious slabs (in-situ or precast), plywood or particleboard on joists, and existing hard finishes retained under an overlay. Each imposes different moisture, flatness and bonding requirements.

01Concrete slabs

The dominant substrate in commercial and multi-residential construction. Moisture content and surface soundness are the primary variables. Slabs cure over months, not days; installation windows must respect the cure state.

02Sheet substrates

Plywood and particleboard require verified flatness, secured fixing and moisture equilibrium with the eventual service environment. Structural deflection under load must be within manufacturer tolerance for the finish being installed.
