Cost optimisation, done properly, does not compromise the specification. It compresses the procurement chain — removing distribution margin, consolidating freight, sequencing production against volume — while holding product, tolerance and warranty constant.

01Legitimate levers

Direct manufacturer engagement removes distributor markup. Consolidated volume across staged programmes secures rate. Freight optimisation — full container use, favourable consolidation windows, direct-to-site delivery — reduces landed cost. Currency hedging on committed orders protects the rate against short-term movement.

02Where optimisation becomes erosion

Substituted product, thinner wear layers, reduced warranty, blended batch stock, and unaudited factory sources reduce headline rate at the cost of long-term performance and dispute risk. The distinction is documentary: legitimate optimisation is visible and defensible in writing.
